Survival and Forgiveness: Teaching the Holocaust in a New Light

Eva Mozes Kor presents her personal story during a session at the National Council for the Social Studies Annual Conference in room 3004 at the Moscone West Convention Center.

Her story is of a 10-year-old from Hungary who, with her family, was sent by cattle car to Auschwitz. There, she and her twin sister, Miriam, were put into the care of Dr. Josef Mengele to undergo sadistic medical experiments, while the rest of their family was sent straight to the gas chambers from the selection platforms.

Powered by a never-give-up attitude, Eva emerged from Auschwitz as a human rights champion, internationally known author and speaker, and advocate for the power of forgiveness. During her presentation, she will share her story and explain how her tale of survival and later, forgiveness, can
be used as supplemental material to enrich Holocaust units.
