Remembering Eva Kor
Eva Kor, an internationally known Holocaust survivor, human rights and forgiveness advocate, author of Surviving the Angel of Death: The Story of a Mengele Twin in Auschwitz, and subject of the Eva: A-7063 documentary, died on July 4, 2019, at the age of 85 in Krakow, Poland, where she was leading her annual group trip to Auschwitz. The news was picked up by many major media outlets around the world, including CBS News, NPR’s All Things Considered, The New York Times, BBC News (U.K.), Jewish News Syndicate, People Magazine, Vatican News, CT Jewish Ledger, and more. Click the following link to listen to a lovely BBC Radio interview with Alex Kor, Eva’s son, and Peggy Tierney (Tanglewood), Eva’s publisher and longtime friend, as they shared their insight into Eva’s amazing spirit and strength.
Recently, the documentary created by Ted Green Films and WFYI was shown on PBS stations across the country in April and May of this year, winning awards in multiple film festivals and seven categories in the regional Emmys. The film, showing the struggles Eva faced throughout her life, changed the minds of many who had been critical of her decision to forgive the Nazis. A Little Extra Back-to-School Assistance
As summer continues to fly by, it’s almost time for kids and families to get ready for the start of a new school year. For many youngsters attending their first classes or returning to school, it can be scary, causing them stress or anxiety. The following books can assist parents and educators in helping them deal with their fears.
The Kissing Hand is widely used by kindergarten teachers on the first day of school. Since its first publication in 1993, this heartwarming book has become a children’s classic touching the lives of millions of children and their parents, especially at times of separation. Learn more about the characters and the author in Audrey Penn’s video interview for KidLitTV’s Creator Corner series.
Is a Worry Worrying You? takes on children’s worries with humor and imagination, as hilarious scenarios teach kids the use of perspective and the art of creative problem-solving. Kids are experiencing high levels of anxiety, and it might be on the rise (the CDC estimates 4.4 million children aged 3-17 have diagnosed anxiety). Psychologists have used this book with patients of all ages, along with great organizations like the National Center for Youth Issues. Send those worries packing!
